Why horror?

Horror is my most favorite genre of, really, anything. I consume a very large amount of this sort of content, and it's a large point of my life. I was first introduced, as a whole, to the genre when I was quite young. In elementary school, for around a year, the only books I read were Goosebumps. It was different from what I usually read, as a child fond of fantasy and sci-fi.

Goosebumps was only my first introduction, but it was far from my last, when the beginning of a new school year only fueled my interest further. The first time I ever heard a horror story circulate was when the entity called Momo came into light. After that, Sirenhead. The years I grew up in were ripe with the staples of horror as we know today.

That was when I was around 8 years old, and since then I've stuck with the genre. Books, movies, games, anything I can get my hands on.

My favorite subgenres, as in the ones that I enjoy the most, are typically psychological, cosmic, folk, Southern, and religious horror. While a few of those are very overlapped, they still all hold elements that I can relate to and find interesting. My favorite subgenre, as in the one I find most effective in grossing me out, horrifying me, etc, etc, is body horror. It freaks me out, makes me uncomfortable, and if I didn't understand what horror was about, I'd never touch it. But I've been teaching myself to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. While I have no intent to numb myself to the genres, well-written body horror is fascinating enough to make me want to read it.

What horror?

Alongside books, I enjoy classic horror video games, which my favorite of is the Resident Evil franchise. I own five of the games on Steam, and find them to be a worthy investment for any fans of it's genre. Finding music that expands into this genre is slightly difficult, though I belive Ethel Cain's album Perverts is a beautifully, horrifingly haunting piece, and is the closest thing to "horror" that I can find music-wise.
